Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad of Bauchi State has said that his administration will promote and uplift the general well-being of persons with disability by encouraging the public to change their negative perception against them.

The governor disclosed this at the distribution of  90 units mobility carts to persons with disability across the 20 local government areas of the state held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Bauchi.

Muhammad said to achieve the desired objectives; the administration would soon constitute a Board of Agency for Parsons with Disability.

He said the distribution of the devices would no doubt cater to the needs of the beneficiaries thereby addressing one of the most important needs of any human being, which is locomotion.

The governor also said the tricycles would provide an opportunity for them to maximize their potentials, thrive and contribute valuably to the society and nation as a whole.

He assured the readiness of his administration to continue to aggressively pursue policies and programmes that would transform the lives of the people of the state irrespective of age, tribe, religion or infirmity.

On her part, the President of the NGO, Mrs. Mary Bamigbe Bruder said the 90 units of power-driven mobility carts were meant to cushion the hardship faced by Persons Living with Disability in the state, in order to help them be able to move around with ease as they go about performing their daily activities.

The initiative was collaboration between a German-based Non-Governmental Organisation, Bruder Hilfe with the Nigerian Embassy in Germany in partnership with the Bauchi the state government.

She assured that: “We will continue to count on your leadership and exemplary role in supporting Nigerians in the diaspora to succeed in their various endeavours as well as promoting cooperation among the government and private sectors in Nigeria and Germany.”
