An agriculturist and national president of the Catfish and Allied Fish Framers Association of Nigeria (CAFFAN), Mr Oloye Rotimi Olubade has called on government at all levels to see diversification into the Agric sector as the only option for the country to get out of the present economy challenges facing Nigeria.
Speaking with EKITI STANDARD in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, Olubade said with the recent development in the crude oil market, coupled with the Covid-19 pandemic ravaging the entire world, it has become pertinent for Nigeria to diversify from over dependent on oil sector to agriculture.
According to him, “We are in Ekiti State to answer the clarion call of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhamadu Buhari, GCFR, and the governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi calling for support from organizations and individuals to support the government in provision of palliative that can be used to alleviate the suffering of the less privileged in this period of Covid-19 pandemic.”
Olubade who reaffirm that the home grown fish is one of veritable animal protein sources with complete profile of essential amino-acids that is necessary for body building, rapid cell replication, and development of body’s immune system.
“It is the belief of CAFFAN, that Home grown Fish should be recognized as more than a staple. It is a must foodstuff in every home especially now that Covid-19 infection has to come to challenge our health and well-being.”
“We are calling on the Federal Government and state governments to include Home grown Fish as part of items for distribution to all vulnerable and less privilege citizens in the country to help in building immune systems that will fight the ravaging effect of covid-19 virus and prepare our body system against any other ailments.
“On behalf of our esteemed partners, Hybrid Feeds and Olam Animal Feed and Protein, producers of highly nutritious Fish feeds, the National Executive Council and entire members of the Catfish and Allied Fish Farmers Association of Nigeria (CAFFAN), we are here in response to the government call for support.” Olubade disclosed.
Also in a chat with EKITI STANDARD, the chairman of CAFFAN, Ekiti State chapter, comrade Temitope Aladeyelu said it is the hope of the association to repeat this act as maybe needed and demanded by those people in the position of authorities.
He stressed further that, “We belief that beneficiaries of this gesture will appreciate the quality of these Home grown and processed Fish by our members across the state and other states of the federation, that have been picked to benefit in the first phase of this scheme.”
Aladeyelu charges youths especially the job seekers to venture into small scale farming business with little capital instead of looking for a white-colar job that are not available.
“It is high time our youths wakeup from their slumber in looking for a lucrative job that are not available. We youths needs to brace up and put an end to poverty for us and for the generation yet unborn not to suffer”, he stated.
