Ganduje inaugurates advisory c’ttee on community Policing

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has inaugurated an advisory committee on community policing with a view to enhancing security in the state.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Malam Abba Anwar on Friday said at the event held at Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, two committees were inaugurated: State Community Policing Advisory Committee and State Community Policing Committee.
While the State Advisory Committee will be chaired by His Highness, the emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the Community Policing Committee will be chaired by the state Deputy Commissioner of police, Balarabe Sule, and will be at the State Police Headquarters, as it will manned directly from the Police headquarters in the state.
Ganduje said: “We want engage our communities in protecting ourselves and prevent our communities from crime and criminalities. There is no better time to do this than now.”
“The State Advisory Committee is chaired by His Highness, Kano Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero. This committee will be giving us advice on how to come about the issue of security in the state.”
The governor explained that the implementation committee would consist of Ward Heads, Village Heads, and other community leaders, arguing tat with full participation of people at the grassroots, the system would be strengthened and becomes more effective.
“We urge people to cooperate with the security agencies in providing them with useful information. Because it is the people of the community who know criminals among them.
“They know themselves. They know what individuals do for a living. They know the location of all criminals living with them. It may surprise you to know that they also know even the potential criminals among them,” he added.
In his remarks the Inspector General of Police, who was ably represented by the Deputy Inspector General, (DIG) Andul Dahiru Danwawu (mni), commended governor Ganduje for his concern and commitment to the community policing, which resulted in making Kano State one of the safest and secured states in the federation.
He, however, urged the public to fully understand the importance of shifting from traditional policing to modern community policing, emphasising that “Community policing is a veritable tool for effective policing.”
He assured that all registered groups that are in place for helping security agencies in securing the state would be involved in the new process.
In his remarks, the emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero assured the state government of full support and unrelenting commitment from the traditional institution in all the five Emirates of the state.
He said: “The state government, courtesy His Excellency is doing very well in securing our dear state. It is important for all the stakeholders to know that our Emirates will do everything possible to secure our society in the best way we can, through good partnership with the security agencies and our communities.
He called on the people of the state to always support government effort in security of lives and property, insisting that all hands must be on deck for the community policing mechanism to work effectively and efficiently.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano Command CP Habu A. Sani psc, appreciates the efforts of state governor for giving priority to security issue in the state and for spearheading the development of community policing to the grassroots in the state.
He said: “The serene and peaceful atmosphere we are enjoying in the state today is as a result of your dogged effort as the Chief Security Officer of the State.
“I also thank the good people of Kano state for their support, understanding, cooperation and obedience especially at this time of pandemic COVID-19.”
Present at the event held at Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, Friday, were the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, represented by the Deputy Inspector General, (DIG) Andul Dahiru Danwawu (mni), Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, heads of security agencies in the state among other stakeholders.
