IFAD Targets Over 53,480 Women And Youth For Agricultural Development

The lnternational funds for Agricultural Development lFAD says it is Targeting fifty three thousand four hundred and eighty women and youths across sixty three local government areas in nine states of federation to engage them into Agricultural related businesses through production, processing and marketing.

The Adviser on market and interprise development Hajiya Fatima Muktar Buhari stated this during a visit on technical implementation support to governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State at the government house lafia.

The IFAD Adviser on market and interprise development Hajiya Fatima Muktar Buhari said Nasarawa state was selected because of its enomous Agricultural potentials and support of small medium and large Scale businesses.

Hajiya Fatima Muktar Buhari explained that the primary objectives of the programme is to reduce poverty and enhance accelerated economic growth and food security in the Country.

She noted that the value chain programme focuses on enhancing productivity and profitability of small holder farmers and small scale Agro processors to improving access to market and increase yield as well as adding value to locally produced raw materials and improve parkeging.

In a remark Governor Abdullahi Sule said the choice of Nasarawa by the international funds for Agricultural development did not come to him as a surprise considering the vast land that is suitable for Agriculture in the State.

The State governor explained that by the time Nasarawa state small holder Agriculture is fully incubated, it would take over many states of the federation in Agricultural production.

Meantime, governor Sule also used the medium to inform the gathering that the over twenty officers of the federal road safety corps that were kidnaped along Nasarawa udege loko road recently by unknown gunmem have regain freedom.
