INDEPENDENCE: We must put Nigeria first – Onyejeocha – ORDER PAPER

OrderPaperToday – The Deputy Whip of the House of Representatives, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, has called on Nigerians to put the country first before selves.

Onyejeocha, in her October 1st independence message, extolled the virtues of resilience and perseverance that continue to help the country in the fight against COVID-19.

She urged citizens to celebrate the day with the spirit of patriotism.

The lawmaker said: “COVID-19 has indeed changed the tides of event in our nation as other global communities. Yet through it all, the resolve of the people in all sense of humanity has kept us going, the perseverance through these trying period has seen us rise above the travesty of the COVID-19 and also given us a greater urgency at emphasizing the need to put nationhood first, through the sacrifice of various organs of government working together to keep us ahead of challenges brought by the pandemic.

“On this very important day in our history and in the hearts of every Nigerian citizen and as a nation- we celebrate this day with the full spirit of patriotism.”

At a time when the call for breakaway is getting loud and stronger particularly in the South-east geopolitical region, the principal officer called for national unity, noting that “the future of our country hinges on our unity, resilience and the sacrifices we make as a purpose-driven generation.”

Onyejeocha also appealed to youths not to give up on the country.


“The Nigerian youth must never give up nor cultivate the notion or accept the conviction that all is not well with the nation but garner ideas activated towards nation building whilst focusing on those areas that progressively give us the opportunity to grow as a nation.”
