OrderPaperToday – The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan on Wednesday taunted the opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to accept defeat if the party loses at the Ondo state gubernatorial election on the 10th of
October.

He stated this while commenting on a point of order raised by Senator Mathew Urhoghide (PDP, Edo) who commended President Muhammadu Buhari and other stakeholders during the Edo State Governorship election, for making it free from violence.

Urhoghide said: “The people of Edo State, including my Governor want to thank Mr. President for providing the ambience for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the police to discharge their duties without fear or favour.

“What Mr President did in ensuring free and fair elections on the 19th of September in Edo State gives hope to this country.”

Responding, Lawan said: “Even though some of our colleagues are in the opposition, the two Senators who spoke—Mathew Urhoghide and Deputy minority leader who enjoyed the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC and they have solid grounds for doing so.

“It is how it should be. We are looking forward to October when the APC will do the same here and congratulate the President, Inspector General of Police for fair and free elections.

“I hope that the opposition will not see that election as compromised but weldone for that very frank and patriotic submission.”
