BENIN CITY – Yesterday’s Nigeria 60th Independence anniversary celebration was low-key yesterday Benin City.

Our Reporter who went around Benin City, including the outskirts said the hustling and burbling that usually accompany Independence anniversary celebration were conspicuously absent.

According to him, many recreation centers in the metropolis witnessed normal activities, against the usual activities in occasions like Independence day.

Some respondents who spoke with The Nigerian OBSERVER blamed the trend on COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn.

A parent who gave his name as Deacon Joe Ugiagbe said he would not expose his children to the COVID-19 pandemic, hence going to recreation centre was a taboo.

He expressed disappointment that some parents, in the name of making their children happy still expose them to the dangers of COVID-19.
