OrderPaperToday – The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded compensation by the Federal Government for families of victims of the #EndSARS protests that have rocked the country for days.

The national chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, stated this at a press briefing on Thursday at the national assembly after meeting with senators from the party.

He equally endorsed the demands made by the protesters against the brutality of the police whether as the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit or the newly created Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) replacement.

Mr. Secondus said it is only a reform of the Nigeria Police Force that will stop the brutality of its personnel on Nigerians.

“We have also discussed the issue of #EndSARS and SWAT. We believe that comprehensive police and policing reforms will be an answer to police brutality.

“We also endorse the five terms raised by the protesters. We also appeal to the government that adequate compensation to the families should be given.

“I believe that when that is done and comprehensive reform is done and the rule of law as it pertains to criminal justice system in our country where everyone will assured of protection of lives and property. That is the way to go in our country. That will bring sanity in our country and that will be a thing of the past”, he said.

The House of Representatives resolved on Wednesday to appropriate a compensation fund for victims of the nationwide protest.

Asked to comment on the nomination of President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide as a National Commissioner for Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Secondus said: “That was discussed and I believe that the senate has dealt with the issue of nomination so we don’t need to emphasize on it.”
